"After working on it for over a year, we now have available a DVD titled,

"Here's to you Point Loma...
1948-1965"

The original 16mm film had been donated to Fort Guijarros Museum Foundation (FGMF) by the late Caroline Crosby, a former Point Loma High School (PLHS) physical education teacher and founding member of FGMF. The film had almost completely deteriorated and needed extensive work. Members Paula Reynolds and Barb Franklin with help from other PLHS Alums, painstakingly restored and transferred the film to DVD. This historical footage spans the years from 1948 to 1965 and includes: PLHS Lomanettes, Homecomings, and Football, as well as Cabrillo Festivals, Portuguese Festas, footage of Balboa Stadium, Lane field and some very rare surprise photos. This DVD is available through PayPal here for $20 plus $4 shipping and handling. Currently the film can also be seen and will be available on Sepember 26, 2010, at the Cabrillo Festival on Ballast Point, Point Loma, and at the Point Loma High School's 85th reunion in November 2010: "Once a Pointer, Always a Pointer,Celebrating 85 years."

SOHO Tour

spacer

The hignly successful SOHO Tour of the historic army base of Fort Rosecrans on Point Loma, San Diego CA, included entry into:

- an officer's house (these buildings are now used by Naval Officers)
- a vist to the Fort Guijarros Museum Foundation Lab and Archival Storage Tunnel (formerly a morgue in the 1940s)
- the Ordnance Repair Facility (1943)
- Battery McGrath (1899)
- location of Spanish Fort Guijarros (1796), the very first fortification on Point Loma
- Battery Wilkeson (1898)
- Submarine Memorial with upper portion of the USS Roncador (SS-301), laid down 1943, commissioned 1945, and decommissioned in 1971.

This rare and interesting tour was made possible through the generosity and hard work of Captain Paul A. Marconi, Naval Base Point Loma, and the many dedicated people of his command, especially Port Operations under BMC Michael Beagley, Facilities Manager Leonard Simon, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard storage, and Public Affairs Officer Bob Page. Our sincere thanks go to all of them.
